Rusty’s Story (as told by Rusty)
I first came to live with my forever owners (my “Mom” and “Dad”) in October 2010, when I was about 3 months old.
Before I met them, Pattie picked me up from the Abilene shelter. From there we drove to Granbury, TX to see the vet. Later that day my future mom contacted BRIT about adopting a Brittany. She just happened to live in Abilene, so I guess it was just meant to be!
It was a busy day for Pattie driving from Abilene to Granbury and back to Abilene meet my new mom – but she said I was worth it.
So I came back to Abilene to live with my new forever family and I just fit right in. I was a little unruly at first since I was just a pup, but mom took me to PetSmart for dog obedience classes where I learned A LOT!
I graduated from my beginner’s class and my intermediate class with the most number of points in the class! Needless to say, I’m a smart dog. My mom always brags about how well trained I am now.
I love my new, forever home!
It’s got everything a Brittany like me could possibly dream of. It had a big back yard already when I came here, but my mom and dad just recently doubled it in size, just for me!
They built a new fence and expanded it so now I have a ½ acre backyard to run and play in, which is great because I am a runner. Not just a runner, more like a sprinter! Running around, playing fetch, chasing birds and butterflies and showing off my agility is my favorite thing to do.
I have a 30 acre wheat field just four houses down from us that belongs to my PaPa (my Dad’s father) so my mom takes me there several times a week to run and play. Boy, I can really chase some birds over there!
My other favorite thing to do is go to PetSmart to visit with the dogs around town. I love all the attention I get there! I live with two young boys that just love me to death and I follow them around everywhere they go.
My very best pal is a cat named Sofie. She was a little unsure of me when I first came here but it didn’t take long for us to become lifelong friends. Now she likes to follow me around the yard when I’m outside to play.
I also love to ride in the car. Mom and Dad take me practically everywhere with them so I get to ride in the car all the time. They say that I’m the sweetest, friendliest, most loveable dog that they’ve ever known and I love them more than anything. I am so glad BRIT helped bring us together!
