Mandy certainly hit the jackpot when BRIT rescued her and her four wee puppies, freeing her from a life as a breeding dog. However, Mandy has had a long journey. First, Mandy and her puppies were fostered in South Texas for several weeks while the puppies were nursing. Next they were moved to another foster home in North Central Texas for a longer period. Although BRIT found forever homes for all four puppies, Mandy had to wait a few more months (to dry up her milk) before she could be spayed.
Unfortunately, she was heartworm positive and had been suffering from the condition before coming into our care. After her spay surgery, she had to wait several more weeks before beginning heartworm treatment. Thankfully, she found a third, quiet, foster home where she could recover from this intensive treatment.
Just when things were looking up, the new foster mom noticed a growth on Mandy’s tail. Our veterinarian examined her and the growth is a sebaceous adenoma which needs to be removed. This surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.
