The Shadow: You will never use the bathroom alone again. You will never cook a meal without a furry supervisor lightly pressing against the back of your knees.
The Lean: If a Brittany is standing next to you, they are leaning all of their weight against you. It’s their way of anchoring themselves to their favorite person, and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Famous “Brittany Smile”
To the uninitiated, a dog showing its front teeth can be a warning sign. To a Brittany owner, it’s the ultimate greeting. The classic “submissive grin” is pure joy in its most awkward form. They curl their lips back, flash a full grin, and usually accompany it with a frantic, full-body wiggle. It looks incredibly goofy, a little bit terrifying to strangers, and absolutely heartwarming to those who know it means, “I missed you so much!”
Master of the “Frog Legs” (Splooting Like a Pro)

Brittanys are the undisputed masters of the “sploot.” Instead of curling up into a neat little dog bed like a normal canine, they love to lay flat on their bellies and stretch their hind legs straight out behind them, perfectly mimicking a frog swimming upstream. Whether they are cooling off their bellies on the kitchen tile after a wild backyard run or just relaxing on the living room rug, this hilarious posture is a daily staple. If a squirrel decides to chatter mockingly from a branch, a Brittany’s internal logic dictates that they MUST immediately go airborne. It is not uncommon to look out into your backyard and see a solid, 60-pound Brittany scaled halfway up a mature oak tree, balancing precariously in a V-shaped branch just to have a face-to-face performance review with a neighborhood squirrel. Meanwhile, their canine siblings usually sit safely on the ground, acting as the lookouts (or wondering how they are going to explain this to the humans). Gravity is just a suggestion when there’s prey to investigate!
The “Mud Magnet”
If there is a single patch of wet dirt, a fresh puddle, or a swampy corner in a five-mile radius, your Brittany will find it. And they won’t just walk through it—they will celebrate it.
Brittanys have an absolute, joyful obsession with mud and dirt. They will dive face-first into a mud hole, dig with pure enthusiasm, and emerge looking like a completely different breed, wearing a thick, chocolate-colored mask from nose to tail. The best part? Whether they have just finished a high-speed lap around the yard, collapsed into one of their signature upside-down sleeping positions, or are simply staring at you hoping for a piece of your sandwich, the tongue is almost always making an appearance. Sometimes it’s a full-blown, happy-pant side-tongue after an intense game of fetch. Other times, it’s just a tiny, hilarious pink tip peeking out while they are deep in thought (or asleep). It is the ultimate finishing touch to their goofy charm, and frankly, it deserves to be celebrated every single day.
