Teaching your Brittany basic tricks that are mentally stimulating is a fun activity and a good way for you to bond. Even a beginner can teach a puppy or adult Brittany to do fun tricks.
Does your Brittany know sit? This classic dog behavior is often the first thing people want to teach their dogs. Not only is it the most common cue other people will ask your dog to do when greeting them on the street, but it’s a great skill to build up your pup’s impulse control and prevent unwanted behaviors like jumping on people or door dashing.
The Down command is one of the most basic dog obedience lessons that your Brittany can learn. It usually comes second, right behind the ‘Sit’ command (which is the simplest of all). ‘Down’ is one of the foundations for formal obedience work, but it also comes in very useful in every day life with a dog.
Have your Brittany greet your friends by shaking hands (or paws, as the case may be). This is an easy dog trick that you can usually train a dog to do in a few short training sessions. Most dogs naturally like using their paws and will enjoy the positive attention they get when doing this trick.
Your friends are sure to be impressed when your Brittany falls to the floor to play dead. Although it looks impressive, it’s not as hard as you might think to train a dog to play dead, especially if you have already trained it to roll over.
Next time your Brittany does something great, celebrate with a high five! It’s easy and fun to teach your canine companion this cute trick.
There’s one trick in particular that everyone loves: hugging!
Teaching your Brittany to catch food is a fun trick to try. Your dog is motivated to learn to catch food in his mouth because he gets a reward while he’s doing the trick.
Some Brittanys love to play fetch. They might even bring it back to you!
